“Harry & David” was established in 2005 but the story began way back in 1914 with Samuel Rosenberg, successful hotel owner and pear orchard owner. Rosenberg’s two sons, Harry and David, took over his orchard when he passed away in 1914. They used their agricultural training to develop a new variety of pear, known as the “Royal Riviera”. When the Great Depression hit, their market vanished but the brothers found an innovative solution in selling the fruit by mail in corporate gift baskets.
